Description: سحب ماجلان هما مجرتان تدوران حول درب التبانة. يبلغ عرض سحابة ماجلان الكبيرة حوالي 14000 سنة ضوئية ويبلغ عرض سحابة ماجلان الصغيرة حوالي 7000 سنة ضوئية. سحابة ماجلان الصغيرة هي مجرة غير منتظمة، لكن قد يكون لدى سحابة ماجلان الكبيرة بنية حلزونية قبل أن تتعطل بسبب قوى المد والجزر من جاذبية مجرة درب التبانة. كلتا المجرتين مرئيتان بالعين المجردة على شكل وهج خافت. عرفت هذه المجرات منذ آلاف السنين من قبل شعوب المناطق الاستوائية والجنوبية من الأرض الذين أطلقوا عليها العديد من الأسماء. عرفها علماء الفلك المسلمون في العصور الوسطى من قصص الرحالة. أما تسميتها الأوروبية فتعود إلى فرديناند ماجلان الذي قام ببعض من أولى عمليات الرصد الأوروبية لهذه المجرات خلال رحلاته.
