Description: Die Frequenz ist die Anzahl an Schwingungen pro Zeiteinheit, z. B. in Zyklen/Sekunde (oder Hertz [Hz]). Sie ist eine Eigenschaft jeder Art von Welle - Schallwellen, Licht oder Gravitationswellen. Die Frequenz und die Wellenlänge einer Welle sind durch die Formel Frequenz = v/Wellenlänge miteinander verknüpft, wobei v der Geschwindigkeit der Welle entspricht. Wenn Astronomen über elektromagnetische Strahlung sprechen, verwenden sie in der Regel entweder die Frequenz oder die Wellenlänge (manchmal synonym verwendet).
