Description: Eine Asteroidenfamilie ist eine Gruppe von Asteroiden mit ähnlichen Bahnelementen: Halbachse (der typische Abstand von der Sonne), Exzentrizität (ein Parameter, der sich auf die Form der Umlaufbahn bezieht) und Bahnneigung. Die Mitglieder einer Asteroidenfamilie können auch eine ähnliche Zusammensetzung aufweisen, was die Menge an Gesteinsmaterial, verschiedenen Metallen oder Wasser betrifft. Es wird angenommen, dass Mitglieder einer Asteroidenfamilie die Überreste früherer Kollisionen zwischen größeren Asteroiden sind.
