Glossary term: Afelio
Description: El afelio o aphelion es el punto de una órbita alrededor del Sol en el que el cuerpo que lo orbita se encuentra más alejado del Sol. Los objetos que orbitan alrededor del Sol y no se ven afectados por ningún otro objeto tienen órbitas de forma elíptica con el Sol en uno de los focos de esta elipse. Matemáticamente, el afelio marca un extremo del eje mayor de la elipse. En esta palabra "ap" denota el punto más lejano y "helion" denota el Sol. Por consiguiente, este término sólo puede utilizarse cuando el cuerpo central es el Sol. Cuando el cuerpo central es una estrella que no es el Sol, el término es "apastro", cuando el cuerpo central que se orbita es la Tierra el término es "apogeo". El término general, independientemente del cuerpo central, es "apoapsis".
