Glossary term: Familia de Asteroides
Description: Una familia de asteroides es un grupo de asteroides con elementos orbitales similares: semieje mayor (la distancia típica al Sol), excentricidad (parámetro relativo a la forma de la órbita) e inclinación orbital. Los miembros de una familia de asteroides también pueden compartir composiciones similares, es decir, la cantidad de material rocoso, diferentes metales o agua que contienen. Se cree que los miembros de estos grupos pueden ser los restos de colisiones pasadas entre asteroides de mayor tamaño.
