Description: Un astrónomo estudia los objetos que componen el Universo. Los astrónomos pueden ser profesionales o aficionados. Los astrónomos profesionales y algunos aficionados analizan los datos científicos obtenidos a través de telescopios en la Tierra y en el espacio para responder a preguntas sobre la composición de los objetos del cosmos, su distribución, evolución y futuro. Con esta información, los astrónomos formulan nuevas teorías que explican lo que vemos en el Universo desde la pequeña a la gran escala. Algunos astrónomos aficionados observan el cielo simplemente para admirar las maravillas del Universo. En la práctica, no hay diferencia entre un astrónomo profesional y un astrofísico. En la astronomía moderna, las observaciones profesionales van siempre unidas a intentos de modelar los procesos físicos que producen los fenómenos que se observan, y la formación universitaria en astronomía incluye por supuesto los conocimientos pertinentes de física.
