Glossary term: Cruz del Sur
Description: La Cruz del Sur es el nombre común de la constelación Crux del hemisferio sur. Tiene cinco estrellas visibles a simple vista que forman una larga cruz, es compacta y fácilmente reconocible. Crux ocupa la menor superficie de la esfera celeste de las 88 constelaciones oficiales. La estrella más brillante, alfa Crucis, es un sistema estelar triple, mientras que beta Crucis es una variable Cefeida. Crux también contiene un impresionante cúmulo abierto, el Joyero (NGC 4755). Crux puede ser usada para encontrar el Sur y el Polo Sur celeste. Está representada en las banderas de Australia, Brasil, Nueva Zelanda, Papúa Nueva Guinea, y Samoa.
