Description: آمبرا در زبان لاتین به معنی "سایه" است. در زمینه‌ی خورشیدگرفتگی و ماه‌گرفتگی، سایه کامل (آمبرا) به ناحیه‌ای از فضا گفته می‌شود که در آن یک جرم آسمانی، نور جرم دیگر را به‌طور کامل مسدود می‌کند.
به‌عنوان مثال، در یک خورشیدگرفتگی، هر ناظری که در ناحیه‌ی سایه کامل (آمبرا) قرار داشته باشد، خورشید را کاملاً پوشیده توسط ماه مشاهده می‌کند. در مقابل، ناظری که در ناحیه‌ی نیم‌سایه (پنامبرا) قرار دارد، تنها یک خورشیدگرفتگی جزئی را خواهد دید، یعنی قرص خورشید تنها به‌طور نسبی توسط ماه پوشانده می‌شود.
اگر ناظر جرم پوشاننده را کوچک‌تر از آن ببیند که بتواند جرم پشتی را کاملاً بپوشاند—مانند خورشیدگرفتگی حلقوی—در این حالت ناظر در ناحیه‌ی آنتومبرا (آنتومبرا) قرار دارد.
