Description: La période orbitale est le temps nécessaire à un objet pour effectuer une orbite complète autour d'un autre objet. Une autre façon de l'exprimer est de dire que c'est le temps qu'il faut à un objet pour revenir au même point de son orbite. Il peut s'agir d'une planète tournant autour d'une étoile centrale (par exemple, la Terre autour du Soleil) ; d'une lune tournant autour d'une planète ; d'une étoile, d'un groupe d'étoiles ou d'une nébuleuse tournant autour du centre d'une galaxie ; ou encore de deux étoiles (binaires) tournant autour de leur centre de masse commun.
