Glossary term: Barre galactique

Description: De nombreuses galaxies spirales présentent une barre, une caractéristique de leur région centrale où la plupart des étoiles, du gaz et de la poussière suivent une barre droite. Les bras spiraux de la galaxie commencent sur les bords extérieurs de cette barre. Les galaxies spirales avec une barre sont appelées galaxies spirales barrées. On pense que la Voie lactée est une galaxie spirale barrée.
