Description: आवृत्ति इस बात का माप है कि कोई वस्तु प्रति इकाई समय में कितनी बार दोलन करती है। जैसे चक्र/सेकंड (या हर्ट्ज़ [Hz])। यह किसी भी तरंग का एक सामान्य गुण है - जैसे ध्वनि तरंगें, प्रकाश या गुरुत्वाकर्षण तरंगें। किसी तरंग की आवृत्ति और तरंगदैर्घ्य एक सूत्र द्वारा संबंधित होते हैं। आवृत्ति = v/तरंगदैर्घ्य जहां v तरंग की गति है। विद्युत चुम्बकीय विकिरण पर चर्चा करते समय खगोलविद आम तौर पर आवृत्ति या तरंग दैर्ध्य (कभी-कभी परस्पर विनिमय के रूप में उपयोग किया जाता है) का उपयोग करते हैं।
