Glossary term: Horizon
Description: Horizon atau cakrawala adalah garis batas yang memisahkan langit dari permukaan Bumi. Dari posisi mana pun di permukaan Bumi, kita hanya melihat sebagian dari bola langit. Batas yang memisahkan apa yang bisa kita lihat dari apa yang tidak bisa kita lihat biasanya disebut horizon atau cakrawala. Dalam astronomi, definisi tersebut diperjelas sebagai berikut: Posisi kita berdiri di permukaan Bumi mendefinisikan bidang horisontal, yang tegak lurus dengan arah ke bawah (yang bisa kita lihat dengan menggunakan garis tegak lurus). Perpotongan bidang tersebut dengan bola langit mendefinisikan horizon lokal astronomi kita. Sistem koordinat horisontal memanfaatkan bidang horisontal untuk menentukan posisi di langit. Sudut antara garis pandang kita ke sebuah objek dan bidang horisontal disebut ketinggian objek; sudut antara proyeksi garis pandang ke bidang tersebut dan arah utara yang sebenarnya disebut azimuth objek.
