Glossary term: Crateri da impatto
Description: Un cratere da impatto è una depressione sulla superficie di un pianeta, di una luna o di un altro corpo solido minore del Sistema solare. I crateri da impatto si formano in seguito all'impatto ad alta velocità di un corpo più piccolo (meteorite). La Luna è piena di crateri da impatto a causa della sua mancanza di atmosfera. La spessa atmosfera della Terra impedisce a molti meteoriti di raggiungere il suolo. Un esempio di cratere da impatto sulla Terra è il Meteor Crater in Arizona, USA.
