First NAEC Spanish-Speaking Central American and Caribbean Meeting


The 1st Central America and Caribbean Spanish Speakers Shaw-IAU Workshop on Astronomy for Education will take place from January 6–8, 2025, in Panama City, Republic of Panamá. This workshop aims to bring together National Astronomy Education Coordinators (NAECs), teachers, and educators from across Central America and Caribbean to explore innovative methods for integrating astronomy into education. Key themes include using astronomy in low-tech environments, integrating it into STEM education, developing pedagogical approaches, and leveraging ICT for astronomy education. Participants will also learn how to incorporate project-based astronomy education into their teaching practices.

This unique event offers engaging talks by the invited experts, hands-on workshops, and networking opportunities, with no registration fees. Accommodation and meals will be provided by the organizers, and limited travel grants are available for select participants. Supported by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), the Shaw Prize Foundation, Universidad de Panamá, SENACYT, and hosted by the Departamento de Física and organized by the OAE Node Panamá, this workshop promises to be a transformative experience for astronomy Spanish speakers educators across Central America and Caribbean.
