Besides being a researcher in the field of astrophysics for 20 years, I have also been a science communicator for 15 years. It s my feeling that in that time none of my efforts, and those include organizing science festivals and researchers night attended by 25k visitors, have resulted in such an impact as my TikTok educational astronomy profile (Dr Cosmic Ray) has. In this talk I will present some main benefits and potential that TikTok and similar platforms have for astronomy education in digital space.

Biography:

Tijana Prodanovic, born in 1978 in Novi Sad, Serbia is an Associate Professor at the Department of Astronomy, University of Belgrade. She holds a PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, where she graduated in 2006 in the field of particle astrophysics. As a teaching assistant during her PhD studies, Tijana was twice elected an Excellent Teacher. In 2008 she won the national, and came 2nd in the international Fame Lab competition for the best young science communicator. For more than 10 years she has also organized science festivals and Researcher Nights in Novi Sad, Serbia. Last 3 years she has been known to younger audience mostly as Dr Cosmic Ray on TikTok.
