This session will feature effective outreach strategies used to recruit, engage, and sustain student involvement from underserved communities in out-of-school informal science outreach programs. Resources to build such programs from the ground will be discussed. Join us to learn more about how you can initiate and sustain a STEM based program in your local community.

Biography:

Tania Anderson has been part of Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) in Maryland for over 26 years and serve as the AAS Education Committee Co-chair. Tania founded the Youth for Astronomy & Engineering (YAE) Program in 2005, which became institutionalized as one of the STEM local initiative programs at STScI. She continues to manage the program were she develops and sustains community outreach initiatives in STEM as well as manage STScI’s Internship Program. She holds a Master of Business Administration degree and is a Certified Diversity Professional. Her passion and experience are grounded in public and community outreach as well as community engagement leadership.
