Shaw-IAU Workshops by the OAE

Our approach is educational, targeting mainly elementary, middle and high school teachers and members of astronomy communities as well, who wish to expand their knowledge and skills through the Project Based Learning methodology, using the robotic telescope network of Las Cumbres Observatory as well as free use resources during our workshops. Participants provide input from their experience, actively participate in the observations programming and analyze the obtained results, which empowers them during the workshop by applying the knowledge acquired. This motivates them to apply the knowledge acquired in their classrooms, showing their students that doing science has a deep relationship with their personal learning.

Biography:

I am an engineer, Msc in Project Management with experience on planning and executing customized training programs and currently, programs focused on astronomy for teachers where they are provided with resources and methodologies to be applied in the classroom. I am the leader of a study and research group affiliated with the Galileo Teacher Training Program and have been accepted as a partner of the Global Sky Partners program of Las Cumbres Observatory since 2019. I am a collaborator with the Office of Astronomy for Education in Colombia. My goal is to apply my knowledge in education and project management to help narrow the knowledge gap as one of the millennium development goals especially for STEM
