Description: 外星智能指地球外可能存在的其他智慧实体。
对地外智慧生命的搜寻包括寻找无线电或其他信号，但目前的研究主要集中在研究地球以外是否存在产生智慧生命的条件。根据现有证据，地球上出现生命的必要条件应该存在于我们银河系内外的许多其他行星上，这些条件包括：一颗固体行星，与恒星保持一定距离以保证行星表面可以存在液态水、碳和氧等原子，以及更复杂分子。因此，有理由假设至少在其中一些行星上可能已经出现了智慧生命，这并不是一个不合理的假设，尽管我们没有确凿的依据来估计这种情况发生的概率。
作为搜索地外智慧生命（SETI）计划的一个课题，一些天文学家已经开始使用无线电信号来搜索外星智能的信息。光速是一个基本的物理极限，导致我们星际旅行需要很长时间，从而限制了我们与外星智能直接接触的能力。
