Glossary term: 恒星的命名
Description: 随着时代变迁，天上的繁星被许多不同文化赋予了不同的名称。这些名称大多是赋予肉眼可见的明亮恒星的。
大多数暗星都没有名字，而是用数字或希腊字母表示，并以所属星座名、星表编号或坐标为后缀。变星通常用两个拉丁字母表示，并以所属星座名为后缀。
少数暗星是以首次观测到该星或对其进行重要研究的天文学家的名字命名的。
恒星通常有来自不同文化的多个名称，也有基于星表或其星座的名称。
多星系统中，在恒星的名称末尾加上一个大写拉丁字母，以区别于同一系统的其他恒星。对于系外行星的名称，则在其母恒星名称的末尾加上一个小写拉丁字母。
国际天文学联合会（IAU）是为天体及其表面特征命名的官方机构。迄今为止，国际天文学联合会已经推动了两次名为“太阳系外世界命名竞赛”（NameExoWorlds）的国际公众活动，第一次是在 2015 年，第二次是在 2019 年。系外行星及其母恒星被正式命名为公众提出的受欢迎名称，并得到国际天文联合会的认可。
