Glossary term: 彩虹

Description: 彩虹是一种巨大的弧形或弓形,自内而外有着紫色、靛色、蓝色、绿色、黄色、橙色和红色的同心条纹,横跨天空,通常在下过雨后才能看到。观察者需要背对太阳才能看到彩虹。彩虹之所以出现,是因为空气中的小水滴通过折射将白色阳光分解成彩色光谱,这个过程叫做色散,与三棱镜的工作原理类似。在一般的彩虹中,阳光在水滴内不但通过折射而被色散,还发生了一次反射。

有时可以看到两条套在一起的彩虹,第二条彩虹的颜色顺序与第一条恰好相反。内侧较亮的彩虹称为主虹,外侧较暗的彩虹称为副虹(又称为霓)。这种双彩虹现象并不常见。当阳光在水滴内除了折射外还发生了两次反射时,就会出现双彩虹。
