Glossary term: 对流区

Description: 对流区是恒星内部以对流而非辐射为主要热量传输方式的区域。对流要求特定区域之内的温差较大。当辐射效率低下时,对流就开始了。

在对流区,恒星深处的热物质会上升到较冷的区域,在那里冷却,然后再下沉。在质量最大的主序星内部,恒星内核是对流区,而外层是辐射区。在与太阳类似的主序星内部,大气层以下的区域是对流区,而更深的区域则是辐射区。在质量最小的恒星中,从内核到大气层以下的所有区域都是对流区。

对流运动导致化学元素的大规模混合。当对流到达恒星表面时,会把新合成的元素和同位素输送到表面,从而在天文学家记录的光谱中留下印记。
