Glossary term: 磁场

Description: 电流会在周围产生一个称为磁场的影响区。反过来,带电粒子在磁场中运动时,也会受到力的作用,除非运动方向与磁场平行。

在天文学中,许多情况下物质会发生电离,其原子会分裂成带电粒子(以氢原子为例,会分为质子和电子)。由此产生的等离子体会产生磁场,并与磁场相互作用。

在恒星内部,运动的等离子体流通过发电机效应产生磁场。在恒星表面附近,磁场会导致恒星活动,例如黑子或耀发。恒星的磁场会在恒星表面产生黑子或耀发,被称为恒星风的带电粒子流会沿着磁力线向外运动。以太阳为例,构成太阳风的一些带电粒子会到达地球,在地球磁场的作用下偏向地球的南北两极。这些粒子使地球大气层发光,产生极光。

磁场在其他各种天体物理环境中也发挥着重要作用,从中子星或黑洞附近的超强磁场,到影响星系气体和等离子体大尺度运动的星际磁场,不一而足。
