Glossary term: 矮星
Description: “矮星”是所谓主序星的同义词：这些恒星在其内核中将氢聚变成氦。恒星的大部分“生命”都是在矮星阶段度过的。我们的太阳就是一颗中年矮星。通常情况下，天文学家在提到这类主序星时，还会提到它们的颜色，比如“红矮星”指的是最常见的小质量矮星，而“黄矮星”指的是像太阳这样的恒星。
注意：在天文学中，有些情况下“矮星”这个词指的并不是如上定义的天体！褐矮星是质量小于太阳质量的8%、内核从未开始稳定氢聚变的天体，它们是介于恒星和行星质量范围之间的一种中间类“亚恒星天体”。白矮星是中低质量恒星耗尽核燃料后的致密残余物。当我们的太阳到达其恒星寿命的终点时，它就会变成一颗白矮星。
