Description: 星光在到達我們的過程中強度減弱,這一現象稱為消光。這種減弱是由於光在傳播過程中被粒子吸收和散射造成的。消光可能來自地球大氣層(稱為大氣消光)、恆星附近的物質(稱為星週消光)或恆星之間的物質(稱為星際消光)。大氣消光主要是地球大氣中存在的氣溶膠和分子,如水、二氧化碳和臭氧,在光學和近紅外波段的影響。星際消光則歸因於氣體和亞微米級塵埃粒子組成的星際物質。與氣體微粒相比,星際塵埃對星光的影響更大。消光通常在較短波長下更強,反之亦然,這使得天體看起來比其真實顏色更紅(紅化)。
