Description: 掩星是指一個天體將另一個天體完全遮住。從地球上看，月球經常從恆星前面經過。我們稱這些恆星被月球掩星。太陽系中的其他天體偶爾也會掩一些亮星。
掩星有助於研究遙遠的柯伊伯帶天體的大氣層。當這些冰凍天體掩星時，來自恆星的光線會短暫穿過柯伊伯帶天體的大氣層。當這些光線到達地球時，就會帶有柯伊伯帶天體大氣層的光譜特徵。
若一個天體從另一個天體前方經過，但並沒有完全遮擋住另一個天體，則我們稱之為凌星。
