Description: 行星系統是指一顆或多顆行星圍繞一顆或多顆恆星、褐矮星和/或恆星遺跡運行的系統。我們的太陽系就是一個以太陽為中心的行星系統·。在過去的幾十年裡，已經發現了數以千計的圍繞著太陽以外的恆星繞轉的行星系。目前已知的少數情況是，行星系的中心天體是一顆褐矮星或恆星遺跡，如中子星或白矮星。
行星系統也可以是繞多個恆星運行的系統，例如圍繞比鄰星運行的行星，比鄰星是距離太陽最近的恆星，也是一個三星系統的成員。還有一些圍繞雙星系統中兩顆恆星運行的行星。
行星系統的規模差別很大，有些行星的軌道距離其主恆星只有幾個恆星半徑，而有些行星的軌道則有數千個天文單位（一個天文單位相當於地球-太陽的平均距離）。
