Description: رائد الفضاء هو شخص مؤهل ليكون جزءا من طاقم على متن رحلة فضائية. يتم تدريب رواد الفضاء على تشغيل الصواريخ والمحطات الفضائية وحل المشكلات التقنية التخصصيةة التي تنفرد بها الرحلات خارج الغلاف الجوي للأرض. غالبا ما يتم تدريبهم على إجراء تجارب علمية في الفضاء، كما قام عددا قليل منهم بالسير على سطح القمر.
تم استخدام مصطلح رائد الفضاء في الأصل للإشارة إلى الطواقم الفضائية في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية ولكنه الآن اصبح مصطلح عام تستخدمه اغلب البلدان. يطلق على طواقم الفضاء الروسية (كوزمونوت)، وغالبا ما يطلق على طاقم الفضاء الصيني اسم (تايكونوت)، ويطلق على طاقم الفضاء الأوروبي اسم (سبيسونوت).
