Description: Ein Energieniveau ist ein diskreter, erlaubter Quantenenergiezustand innerhalb eines Atoms oder Moleküls. Es wird in Elektronenvolt (eV) gemessen. Wenn ein Elektron in einem Atom oder Molekül von einem Energieniveau mit höherer Energie zu einem mit niedrigerer Energie wechselt, wird ein Photon mit einer Energie emittiert, die dem Energieunterschied zwischen den beiden Niveaus entspricht. Ebenso kann ein Photon von einem Atom oder Molekül absorbiert werden, wenn seine Energie der Energiedifferenz zwischen dem aktuellen Niveau und einem höheren Niveau entspricht.
