Description: Ein Eisenmeteorit ist ein Meteorit mit einem hohen Anteil an Eisen und Nickel. Wahrscheinlich waren sie einst Teil eines Asteroidenkerns. Eisenmeteoriten sind sehr dicht und sehr massereich. Fast 60 % der auf der Erde gefundenen Meteoriten sind Eisenmeteoriten, obwohl sie nur 5 % der Meteoriten ausmachen, die auf der Erdoberfläche einschlagen. Einer der Gründe dafür ist, dass sie fester sind und nicht so leicht verwittern wie Steinmeteoriten.
