Description: Ein Doppelsystem ist ein System mit zwei astronomischen Objekten vergleichbarer Größe, die sich unter dem Einfluss ihrer eigenen Schwerkraft gegenseitig umkreisen. Dabei kann es sich um ein Doppelsternsystem handeln, bei dem sich zwei Sterne gegenseitig umkreisen. Es gibt auch Doppelsysteme, in denen beide Objekte Schwarze Löcher sind, oder Doppelsysteme mit einem Schwarzen Loch und einem Neutronenstern. Die Objekte in einem Doppelsystem kreisen um den Massenschwerpunkt des Systems. Wenn eines der Objekte viel leichter ist als das andere, wie z. B. ein Stern und ein Planet oder ein Planet und ein Mond, passt die Bezeichnung Doppelsystem zwar immer noch, ist aber weniger gebräuchlich.
