Description: Ein Dunkelnebel ist eine kalte Gas- und Staubwolke im Weltraum, die einen Großteil des Lichts von dahinterliegenden Sternen und hellen Nebeln blockiert und daher dunkel erscheint. Auch wenn der Staub nur 1 % der Materie im Nebel ausmacht, absorbiert er dennoch das Licht von hinten. Dunkelnebel blockieren zwar das sichtbare und ultraviolette Licht, aber mit Beobachtungen im Infrarotlicht ist es ist möglich, durch sie hindurchzusehen. Das bekannteste Beispiel für einen Dunkelnebel ist der Pferdekopfnebel im Sternbild Orion.
