Description: Eine elliptische Galaxie ist eine Art von Galaxie mit einem gleichmäßigen, elliptischen Aussehen wie eine auf einer oder zwei Achsen gequetschte Kugel - im Gegensatz zu Scheibengalaxien, die eher pfannkuchenförmig erscheinen. Elliptische Galaxien enthalten typischerweise überwiegend alte, gelb-rötliche Sterne sowie sehr wenig Gas. Im Vergleich zu Spiralgalaxien entstehen in ihnen sehr wenige neue Sterne.
