Glossary term: Objeto transneptuniano
Description: Los objetos transneptunianos (OTN) son una clase de objetos pequeños y planetas enanos que orbitan alrededor del Sol más allá de la órbita de Neptuno. Se definen por tener una distancia típica al Sol (el semieje mayor de su órbita) superior a la distancia típica de Neptuno al Sol (30.1 unidades astronómicas o distancias Tierra-Sol). Se conocen más de 2000 OTN. La mayoría pertenecen al Cinturón de Kuiper, aunque los objetos más distantes forman parte de una población denominada disco disperso.
