Glossary term: Calendario
Description: Un calendario es un sistema para calcular el tiempo, en particular para identificar las estaciones. Los calendarios suelen establecerse en términos de días, semanas, meses y años. Es un sistema abstracto basado en el movimiento periódico de los objetos celestes (Luna, Sol, estrellas). Los calendarios se han utilizado desde la antigüedad. La Luna y el Sol eran dos objetos en el cielo que tenían movimientos periódicos fácilmente identificables que daban lugar a cambios identificables en el paso de los días, las semanas, los meses y las estaciones. Los calendarios pueden basarse en el ciclo lunar mensual (calendarios lunares), en el año solar (calendarios solares) o en calendarios lunares a los que se añaden días adicionales para que coincidan con el año solar (calendarios lunisolares). Existe una maravillosa variedad de calendarios en todo el mundo, fruto de la herencia astronómica local.
