The poster will showcase some of the hands-on activities we use to demonstrate astronomy concepts, for students in after school astronomy clubs, and teachers during teacher training sessions.
Biography:
After gaining a B.Sc in Physics from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, Sarah spent many years in IT in a variety of roles including Programmer, IT Training Professional, IT Support, and Customer Relationship Management. Her passion for astronomy was ignited in 2009 when she first visited the Planetarium in Accra. She has been deeply involved with the Planetarium ever since, and is currently the Weekend and Special events Coordinator, responsible for organising weekend events for children, families and the general public, as well as special events such as teacher’s workshops, school visits and setting up school astronomy clubs.
Sarah has gained a wealth of experience in designing and delivering astronomy and science sessions, both in-person and online, including developing curricula, writing course materials and designing and/or adapting practical activities.
Sarah is the General Secretary of the African Astronomical Society (AfAS), an instructor and team member of the Pan African School for Emerging Astronomers (PASEA), a founder member and Secretary of the Astronomical Society of Ghana, and a project team member of PRAGSAC (Promoting Radio Astronomy in Ghana through School Visits and Astronomy Clubs), an outreach project seeking to promote STEM through astronomy.
