Shaw-IAU Workshops by the OAE

Developing future skills are crucial for students to integrate knowledge with an innovative thinking mindset. However, subjects to be taught are generally separated in mainstream schools. Some students may lack the experience to overcome cross-disciplinary problems when they are facing their future society. Astronomy, as an interdisciplinary science, can be a linkage of different disciplines, building science literacy. The talk will introduce an interdisciplinary project called STEM+A@Astronomy. It aims to cultivate students’ learning incentives and curiosity about the night sky through experiential learning. It could apply to modular lessons in formal education and interactive activities in public education to provide an intensive learning experience for students in their daily life.

About Exodus Chun-Long Sit

Exodus CL Sit is a National Astronomy Education Coordinator (Chair of Hong Kong) of the International Astronomical Union and STEAM Educator in a school in Hong Kong, China. As the international committee of the International Dark-Sky Association, he started his STEM+A@Astronomy project (learning science by art), which aims to provide an interdisciplinary learning experience for students. His research interests include experiential learning approaches and teaching methods for astronomy education and dark-sky advocacy.
