Description: 伽马射线暴是伽马射线波段的短时爆发。最早，监测地球秘密核武器试验的卫星探测到了一些伽玛射线暴发，然而，人们发现它们的起源在外层空间，实际上是在我们的银河系之外。大多数伽马射线暴被认为是超新星爆炸产生的，有些可能是双星系统中两颗中子星合并的结果。这些巨大的爆炸会产生两股集中的物质喷射。高能量的伽马射线也会沿着这些喷射流向外释放。只有当其中一个喷流偶然指向地球时，我们才能看到伽马射线暴。对伽马射线暴的光学和 X 射线对应余晖的观测表明，这些爆起源于其他星系中，其中大部分距离地球非常遥远。
