Description: 銀盤是銀河系的盤狀結構，其中包含圍繞銀河系中心做圓形共面運動的恆星、氣體和塵埃。銀盤的直徑約為 10 萬光年，與之相比，銀盤非常薄。它有時被分為兩個部分：厚度約為 1000 光年的薄盤和厚度約為 5000 光年的厚盤。厚盤是銀河系的獨立組成部分還是薄盤的延伸，天文學家對此尚有爭論。薄盤有四個旋臂，那裡的恆星形成率相對較高。盤的周圍環繞著一個巨大的星系暈。
