Glossary term: 卫星
Description: 卫星是围绕行星、矮行星或小行星等较小天体运行的天体。地球有一颗卫星,叫做月球。太阳系的大多数行星都有卫星,但水星和金星没有。矮行星冥王星有几颗卫星,少数其他矮行星和小行星也有卫星。这里的卫星是指天然卫星,用于通信或科学目的的人造卫星不属于此类。
许多卫星是在围绕行星、矮行星或其他天体的轨道上形成的。人们认为,月球是在太阳系形成的早期阶段,由地球和一颗行星发生大碰撞后,由抛射出的物质形成并围绕地球运行的。其他许多卫星(大多较小)都是小行星,它们被所环绕天体的引力俘获。
