Glossary term: 行星系统

Description: 行星系统是指一颗或多颗行星围绕一颗或多颗恒星、褐矮星和/或恒星遗迹运行的系统。我们的太阳系就是一个以太阳为中心的行星系统·。在过去的几十年里,已经发现了数以千计的围绕着太阳以外的恒星绕转的行星系。目前已知的少数情况是,行星系的中心天体是一颗褐矮星或恒星遗迹,如中子星或白矮星。

行星系统也可以是绕多个恒星运行的系统,例如围绕比邻星运行的行星,比邻星是距离太阳最近的恒星,也是一个三星系统的成员。还有一些围绕双星系统中两颗恒星运行的行星。

行星系统的规模差别很大,有些行星的轨道距离其主恒星只有几个恒星半径,而有些行星的轨道则有数千个天文单位(一个天文单位相当于地球-太阳的平均距离)。
