Glossary term: 電磁力

Description: 繼根據19 世紀的法拉第和麥克斯韋的研究,物理學家認為空間中充滿電場和磁場。運動的電荷會在其周圍產生這樣的電磁場,反過來,電荷的運動也會受到其所在位置電場和磁場的影響。正電荷會沿著電場的方向加速運動,負電荷則相反;運動中的電荷會在垂直於其運動方向的磁場作用下發生偏轉。這兩種場對電荷影響的總稱就是電磁力。恆星、氣體雲、整個星系或漩渦吸積盤等天體都有大尺度磁場,在這些地方,電磁力會變得非常重要。
