Welcome
Thanks for agreeing to act as a translator for translations for the OAE's educations resources. The aim of this project is to provide educational resources for primary and secondary schools in many different languages. The main audience for this is school teachers but the resources and their captions will probably also be viewed by secondary school students. Hence we are looking for scientifically accurate translations for these diagrams that are written in a way that they will be understood by someone with a basic secondary school science education.
Firstly a quick description of how we produce the diagrams. Currently all of our diagrams are produced either using Python routines or using SVG templates. The Python routines are published on the OAE's Github page. Each repository on this page contains code to make one or more diagrams as well as a translations file containing translated terms to make the diagrams in different languages. If you aren't familiar with Python or Github, don't worry, we'll take care of all that, you just need to fill out some forms on our website. If you are familiar with Python and Github then feel free to grab the plotting code and edit it any way you like.
Each bit of plotting code makes one or more plots. In the translation system you will get the chance to translate all of the diagrams produced by one of these bits of plotting code. So for example the "Blackbody Radiation" set of plots contains two diagrams and two captions. When you translate the "Blackbody Radiation" set of plots you would translate all the labels on the diagrams as well as the captions for those diagrams. For plots made by SVG templates only one plot is produced, you will need to translate all of the labels and the caption for this plot in the same way.
You can find diagrams to translate on your on the OAE translation and review system. Near the top of the page you will see a button offering you a semi-random set of diagrams to translate.

Once you get to the form to start a translation you will be present with a list of the labels that are included in the diagrams. Each label could be used in more than one diagram. For example in the example given below "wavelength (nm)" is used in every diagram in this set. If you would like to see where these labels are used you can scroll down to see the English versions of the diagrams later on in the page
For some languages (mostly European or East Asian languages) you will be presented with a machine translation from DeepL as a first version. Please check and if required edit this first version before submitting it.
Lower down the page you will see the English version of the diagrams in this set along with the captions, alt text and credit for that diagram. Please ensure this text is also translated. Note that you may hit the character limit on the alt text. You may also sometimes see text referring to an "alternate version", this is mostly used for when we offer black and white versions of the diagram. Please translate this text too.
Finally you will need to click submit. If you have completed the form correctly you will be taken to a new page for your translation. If there are errors in your form you will get an error message. Note for code generated from Python code on the OAE Github repositories your translation is automatically added to the repository. The actual translated diagrams will need to be made by one of the OAE team, this may take a few days. If you want your diagrams now you can grab the code from Github and make them yourself. Your translation will already be in the translations.json file in the translations folder.
