Glossary term: 쌍성계
Description: 쌍성계는 비슷한 크기의 두 천체가 서로의 중력에 끌려 함께 공전하는 구성을 말합니다. 이런 쌍성계에는 여러 종류가 있습니다. 예를 들어, 두 개의 별이 서로 공전하는 쌍성, 두 블랙홀이 짝을 이루는 블랙홀 쌍성, 또는 블랙홀과 중성자별이 함께 있는 쌍성계가 있습니다. 쌍성계에 속한 두 천체는 공통의 질량 중심을 중심으로 서로 공전합니다. 별과 행성, 또는 행성과 달처럼 두 천체 중 하나가 훨씬 가벼운 경우에도 이론적으로는 쌍성계라고 부를 수 있습니다. 하지만 이런 경우에는 보통 쌍성계라는 표현은 잘 사용하지 않습니다.
