Description: Uma família de asteroides é um grupo de asteroides com elementos orbitais semelhantes: semieixo maior (a distância típica do Sol), excentricidade (um parâmetro relacionado com a forma da órbita) e inclinação orbital. Os membros de uma família de asteroides também podem compartilhar composições semelhantes, isto é, a quantidade de material rochoso, diferentes metais ou água que contêm. Acredita-se que os membros desses grupos sejam remanescentes de colisões passadas entre asteroides maiores.
