Description: Die Leuchtkraft ist die Energie, die pro Sekunde von einem emittierenden Körper, wie z. B. einem Stern, abstrahlt wird. Am häufigsten wird sie für elektromagnetische Strahlung verwendet, wobei dabei der Wellenlängen- oder Frequenzbereich mit angegeben werden muss. Die Leuchtraft über alle elektromagnetische Wellenlängen entspricht der gesamten Strahlungsleistung des emittierenden Körpers. In der Astronomie ist die "bolometrische Helligkeit" ein Maß für diese Gesamtleuchtkraft eines astronomischen Objekts.

Andere Formen der Leuchtkaft schließen Neutrino-Emissionen oder Gas- und Materieströme wie Jets mit ein.

In der Astronomie wird die Leuchtkraft oft als Vielfaches der Leuchtkraft der Sonne ausgedrückt und als "Sonnenleuchtkraft" bezeichnet.
