Glossary term: कुइपर बेल्ट

Description: कुइपर बेल्ट बाहरी सौर मंडल में छोटी, बर्फीली वस्तुओं का एक समूह है जो ज्यादातर नेपच्यून की कक्षा से परे स्थित है। वस्तुएँ आमतौर पर सूर्य से ४०-४८ AU की दूरी पर पाई जाती हैं (पृथ्वी और सूर्य के बीच की औसत दूरी १ AU - १४९,५९७,८७०,६९१ मीटर है)।

कुइपर बेल्ट की वस्तुएं अधिकतर छोटी होती हैं। प्लूटो सहित कई बौने ग्रह हैं। क्षुद्रग्रह बेल्ट की परिक्रमा करने वाली छोटी वस्तुओं और बौने ग्रहों के विपरीत, कुइपर बेल्ट की वस्तुएं आम तौर पर जमे हुए पानी, मीथेन और अमोनिया से बनी होती हैं।

Caption: NASA's New Horizons spacecraft captured this high-resolution enhanced colour view of the dwarf planet Pluto on in July 2015. The image combines blue, red and infrared images taken by the Ralph/Multispectral Visual Imaging Camera (MVIC). Pluto’s surface appears enhanced in this view to a rainbow of pale blues, yellows, oranges, and deep reds. The image resolves details and colours on scales as small as 1.3 kilometers.
