Glossary term: Fascia di Kuiper
Description: La Fascia di Kuiper è una fascia di piccoli oggetti ghiacciati del Sistema Solare esterno che si trovano per lo più oltre l'orbita di Nettuno. La maggior parte degli oggetti è localizzata a distanze di 40-48 unità astronomiche dal Sole.
Gli oggetti della Fascia di Kuiper sono per lo più piccoli, anche se vi si trovano diversi pianeti nani, tra cui Plutone. A differenza dei piccoli corpi e dei pianeti nani della fascia degli asteroidi, gli oggetti della fascia di Kuiper sono costituiti per la maggior parte da acqua ghiacciata, metano e ammoniaca.
