Glossary term: 핵분열

Description: 핵분열은 무거운 원소의 원자핵이 두 개의 더 가벼운 핵으로 나뉘는 과정입니다. 이 과정에서 남은 물질의 질량은 원래의 원자핵 질량보다 조금 작아집니다. 줄어든 질량만큼의 에너지가 방출됩니다.

핵분열로 만들어진 두 개의 가벼운 핵은 스스로 방사성을 띠는 경우가 많으며, 방사성 붕괴를 하면서 추가로 더 많은 에너지를 내보낼 수도 있습니다.
