Description: A fissão nuclear é um processo no qual o núcleo de um elemento pesado se divide em dois núcleos mais leves. A massa do material restante é menor do que a do núcleo original, e a diferença de massa é liberado como energia.

Os dois núcleos mais leves produzidos pela fissão nuclear são frequentemente radioativos e podem liberar mais energia por meio do decaimento radioativo.
