Glossary term: Fisión nuclear
Description: La fisión nuclear es un proceso en el que el núcleo de un elemento pesado se divide en dos núcleos más ligeros. La masa del material resultante es menor que la del núcleo original, mientras que la diferencia de masa se libera en forma de energía.
Los dos núcleos más ligeros producidos por la fisión nuclear suelen ser a su vez radiactivos y pueden liberar más energía mediante la desintegración radiactiva.
